Most Christians have acquired the stories of the heroes and heroines of the Hebrew Bible, traditionally known as the Old Testament, through Sunday School and/or Hollywood movies. These stories are primarily myths and folklore. They were mythologized in childhood and continue to serve as history and examples of divine intervention. Today, they are ignored and replaced with modern heroic characters such as Superman, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, and Spider-Man, designed by Disney and other animation picture companies.

If we read stories of Noah, Abraham, Samson, David, and Daniel in the Hebrew Bible allegorically, we may learn that these heroic characters are Christ figures in their places and times. This discovery may lead us to realize that they are my story and my children’s story, your story and your children’s story, too. Revisit them and find Christ in them and you.
